[The person you work with]In March 2020 my job disappeared. A few months later I was standing on a property video shoot. That is where EpicVideo started.

I am Tamás Kelemen, born in 1982 in Kerepestarcsa, Hungary. By the time I first picked up a camera I already had sixteen years in visual work behind me – as a graphic designer, a photographer, an estate agent. I just did not know yet that all of it was leading to the same place.

During the pandemic I offered photography to an estate agent I knew. He said they could take their own photos – but they were looking for someone to film. I said yes before I had decided whether I could film. That night the avalanche started. Seven years have passed since.

One desk in Budapest.

I spent sixteen years learning visual work without knowing that was what I was doing. In the design department of a multinational, everything from A5 to A0 – that is where I learned what a press-ready file means and what a deadline means. Four years in England and France, running teams and production – that is where I learned English, and that looking after twenty people is no harder than looking after one, only different. Three years at OTP Ingatlanpont, a Hungarian estate agency – that is where I learned that a beautiful photo is not enough to sell a property: it needs a story someone can buy.

After the first shoot came the editing. Then the website. Then the AI render. In every new field something from the old one came back – the precision of the designer, the thinking of the estate agent, the rhythm of the London years. In seven years I did not learn a new trade. What had lived separately for sixteen years simply came together.

Camera & editing

Two jobs, three years each as an in-house graphic designer. Which is why the rhythm of a brochure and the typography of a website are not guesswork – they are a trade.

Design & web

Over twenty years I learned four trades – not one after another, but each one built on the last. All four come back in the work I do today: the designer's eye in the edit, the estate agent's instinct in the campaign plan, the manager's rhythm on the deadlines. One person, one pair of hands – with four trades behind them.

ComfyUI for the AI renders, DaVinci Resolve for the grade. Both in one pair of hands – which is why the light in the render and the colour of the edit come from the same eye.

What I have learned.

01

Why alone

For twenty years I worked in teams – in a bank, as an estate agent, in production, in hospitality. Everywhere the same thing: the more hands, the more is lost in the communication, in the taste, in the time. In a one-person workflow that loss is not there. In exchange, every decision is mine – and I take that on.

02

How I think about a project

At OTP Ingatlanpont I learned that a beautiful picture is not enough on its own – it needs a story behind it. Every project of mine starts with a question: what does this campaign have to say, and who is it saying it to? The camera and the edit come only after that.

03

What I see differently

AI does not replace the craft – it speeds it up. What used to be three weeks of visualisation is now three days. What three studios used to do together is now the work of one pair of hands. But the decision is still made by taste: what I leave out, what I emphasise, where I stop adding another effect.

04

What I aim for

Campaigns I will still be happy to keep in my portfolio in five years. That is why I do not take on everything – only what I can carry through in my own taste, from the first meeting to publication. I would rather say no to an average, template campaign.
